If you're scouring the lingerie sections for something frilly, lacy, skimpy, silky and downright uncomfortable in which to sleep in order to impress your man.... you might be wasting your time and your money.

And when it comes to female preference, women would rather men wore simple boxers or underwear to bed - and certainly not a football shirt.

At least 22 per cent of men say that a woman sleeping in their borrowed clothing is sexiest of all
Some 37 per cent of men polled about nighttime wardrobe choices said a full set of pyjamas was the sexiest thing their girlfriend or wife could wear in bed; 55 per cent of those who picked pyjamas explained their reasoning by saying full PJ sets looked 'cute' on women in the bedroom, while 21 per cent found the modesty of pyjamas attractive.
Sexy lingerie did come second in the poll, with 32 per cent of men quizzed by memory foam mattress company Ergoflex saying they preferred something skimpy on a lady.
Just 27 per cent said negligee or a nightie was the best choice, while 22 per cent said nothing was sexier than seeing a women sleeping in borrowed man's clothing, be it pyjamas or a T-shirt.
And only 16 per cent of men said they liked their woman sleeping in nothing at all.

Most women (35 per cent) would prefer their men to sleep in boxers, while 31 per cent believe that pjyama bottoms only is a sexier look between the sheets
Women, on the other hand, would rather see their chaps in just boxers or underwear in bed, with 35 per cent of the fairer sex saying that was the sexiest thing a man could wear in which to sleep.

A total of 1,912 men and women aged 18 and over subsequently took part in the poll, answering questions relating to bed wear.
When asked whether or not their partner's preference would influence their decision as to what to wear in bed, 71 per cent of men said no while only 35 per cent of women said the same.
Furthermore, 78 per cent of women and 70 per cent of men prioritised comfort over attractiveness when opting for bed wear - despite the fact that 49 per cent of those taking part claimed that a partner had claimed to find their bed wear choices unattractive in the past.
Jed MacEwan, Managing Director of Ergoflex UK, said: 'Comfort should be paramount when it comes to bed wear, as what you wear can seriously affect the quality of the night's sleep you get.
'Temperature, movement restrictions or an uncomfortable fit can all have a negative impact on the quality of your sleep, causing you to toss and turn as your body struggles to find an adequate comfort level.
'Temperature in particular is vital, as the body needs to be able to cool to a certain point before sleep can take place, and it's also vital you're not too hot or cold during the night.
'It's therefore more important than you might think to choose your bed wear wisely.
'It's good to see that so many men consider full pyjama sets to be more attractive- particularly for those who take their partner's preferences into consideration.
