I wear pajamas almost all day, every day. I might wear "real" clothing for all of 5-10 hours a week, maybe a little more if we go to the coast with the pups one day. What I'm getting at is that I live in pajamas and if I'm going to wear them all day, I might as well like them. The first time I sewed the New Look 6764 pattern, I followed it to the letter in the size indicated for my measurements and while the end results are functional and they are OK looking if I pull a shirt over the top of it, they really don't look like the pattern photo which shows a cute pair of well fitting pants that sit comfortably below the waistline. I made my first attempt at modifying a pattern and it took me two tries, but I think I have gotten it to a point where I can whip out a cute pair of pajamas in a couple of hours (including cutting and pressing) and be happy with the end results In the first round of mods, I copied the entire pattern to paper then tapered off a 1/2" of each of the long seams (inseam and side seams) starting at the top of the seam and tapering off to meet the original line of the garment. I also took a full two inches off the top and bottom of the entire piece. Instead of working view D as I did the first time, I used view A which doesn't have the frilly top edge, nor the contrasting border on the bottom. I sewed up this version and am 100% happier with the results. I did think the rise pulled down a little in the back so I returned the 1/2" back to inseam for the back pieces only. I could probably taper the top front down just a tiny bit, maybe 1/4 to 1/2" to get it absolutely perfect but for pajamas, I think the mods I've made suit my needs quite well. My last modification was to ditch the chintzy twill tape and use some polyester ribbon I had lying around.
